How to obtain your real estate license in New York

If you know what to expect and can fulfill the requirements, obtaining a real estate license is not difficult.
Below are some important steps to obtaining your real estate license.

A real estate salesperson’s license is required to begin your career in real estate. To apply for the license, you must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time you apply
  • Successfully complete a 75-hour NY state approved course
  • Be a permanent resident of the United States
  • Pass the NY state licensing exam
  • Be sponsored by a NY state licensed real estate broker
  • Submit to the Department of State an online application that has been authorized by a sponsoring broker with a license fee

Real estate licensing classes are offered in many areas during the day, on weekends or in the evening hours.
